By a decision of the Municipal Council, the new program for providing an accessible architectural environment for the period 2024-2027 was adopted today, it has been developed in accordance with the provisions of the People with Disabilities Act, as well as with international and European regulations, and continues the efforts of the completed municipal program for the period 2022-2023. There were no "against", and two abstained.
The main directions of the new program include healthcare by providing access to municipal medical institutions, medical centers and nurseries; improving the accessibility of municipal sports facilities and facilities; providing access to municipal and state educational institutions; expanding access to social services and activities; providing access to cultural institutions such as theatres, operas, libraries and youth centres; improvement of transport infrastructure and communications and measures to ensure an accessible architectural environment in residential areas.
The main objective of the program is to gradually provide an accessible urban and architectural environment for all citizens, which will guarantee the sustainable development of the city of Ruse as a regional administrative center and will allow the full participation of all people in public life.
The implementation of the program will lead to the improvement of the urban environment and the overall sustainable urban development of the Municipality of Ruse. Citizens will have equal access to educational, health, labour, social and cultural services and activities. Raising public awareness of tolerance and non-discrimination is also among the important goals.
The program envisages the improvement of the transport network and the entire infrastructure related to the movement of people with disabilities, as well as the publication of a plan-scheme for the transport network of the Municipality of Ruse with the most important sites and significant services. Stimulating the participation of citizens with disabilities in all spheres of socio-economic life and avoiding isolation are also among the priorities. The program is also committed to compliance with Bulgarian and European legislation aimed at protecting the rights of citizens with disabilities and ensuring a full life.
With the decision adopted today, the Municipality of Ruse will continue to work hard to improve the conditions for all its citizens and ensure equal access to all public services and infrastructure.
