The fifth edition of the exhibition "The Past Today" was opened today at the square. "Freedom. " The exposition is realized on the idea of the State Archive - Ruse, with the financial support of the Municipal Foundation "Ruse-City of Free Spirit" and the company "Express Service" Ltd.

This year, the traditional exhibition of archival photographs presents intriguing photographs of famous people from Bulgarian and world history whose life path was connected with Ruse. The next edition of "The Past Today" is an attempt to make a connection between the past and the present of Ruse by presenting to the general public interesting personalities who have visited or worked in our city.

The opening was attended by Zlatomira Stefanova - deputy mayor of Ruse Municipality and chairman of the Municipal Foundation "Ruse - City of Free Spirit", Tolya Chorbadjieva - head of the State Archives Department in Ruse and Tsvetelin Kolev - manager of Express Service.

"For me it is very important when business is involved in such nice initiatives. The exhibition is accessible to all residents of Ruse and guests of our city, especially now in the active tourist season. When they look at the photos, citizens of Ruse can feel proud and even more connected to their city. So comes the desire to love your native place and protect it," said Zlatomira Stefanova at the opening of the exhibition.

Tolya Chorbadjieva said that this year the State Archives chose to show another aspect of Ruse's European face, namely the famous people who visited our city. "The architecture of Ruse was the object of the previous editions of the exhibition, and now we decided to put the emphasis on the people and what happened in our city", emphasized the head of the "State Archive" department.

In the exhibition "Past Today" you can see a sealed moment of the visit of the Cuban leader Fidel Castro to the Danube city, which some people of Ruse still remember. Archive photos also show iconic figures from sports, theater and music, such as Dmitri Shostakovich, Leon Daniel, Neshka Robeva and the Golden Girls. One of the boards presents a historical photo of the legendary Ruse mayor Kiril Startsev, who remains in the history of Ruse with the large-scale improvement of the city.

"We are grateful for the opportunity to promote and show these archival photos, because Russians need to know their history. She is a pride for our city", said Tsvetelin Kolev - manager of "Express Service", with whose financial support the exhibition is being carried out.

The text accompanying the photos is bilingual (in Bulgarian and English), so that foreign guests of the city can get acquainted with the highlights of the biography of the exposed person, as well as with the interesting and rich history of Ruse.

The boards with the intriguing photos are located in the city center next to the fountains in front of the Municipality building and will remain there until late autumn.
