On October 8 /Saturday/ from 19:15 to 19:45 the Pantheon building will be lit in green. The initiative is on the occasion of the European Organ Donation and Transplantation Day. It is implemented by the Executive Agency "Medical Supervision" of the Ministry of Health with the support of the Ruse Municipality.
The idea of the campaign is to turn the public's attention to voluntary organ donation. Every day, 16 patients in the EU do not live to see their transplant, and thousands more remain on waiting lists. Bulgaria is one of the EU countries with the lowest number of transplants per capita. By mid-September, statistics show that there were 18 in total - 11 kidney, 5 liver and 2 heart. During the same period, the number of Bulgarians waiting for transplantation was 946.
A series of events will be organised from 7 to 16 October to pay tribute to organ donors and their families, to express gratitude to medical transplant professionals, and to raise public awareness of the meaning and importance of the noble act. On October 8, emblematic buildings in other regional cities will also be illuminated. The choice of colour is not random - green is the colour of donation.
