The public procurement for the procedure is scheduled to start on October 15 this year.

The deadlines for the start of the public procurement for larvicidal spraying of mosquitoes in 2025 along the Danube River were the main topic of the working meeting of the Minister of Health Dr. Galya Kondeva with mayors of Danube cities. The main focus of the meeting was on the timely launch of the procedure to ensure effective mosquito control in the region.

The meeting was attended by the Mayor of Ruse Municipality Pencho Milkov, who emphasized the need for an early start of the process. "The fight against mosquitoes and the diseases they carry is a continuous battle for me as mayor of Ruse," he said.

The representatives of the Association of Danube Municipalities (ADO) insisted that the Ministry of Health start the larvicidal treatment procedure as early as this year, so that a contractor can be selected in time, which will allow the treatment of mosquito larvae to begin in March or early April 2025.

During the meeting, Pencho Milkov emphasized that the successful fight against mosquitoes depends on coordinated and timely actions. "After the state carries out the larvicidal treatment of the coast and mosquito biotopes, we, as mayors, will be able to successfully continue the year with the imagocidal treatment. In the last two years, there has been an extraordinary delay on the part of the state. For this year, the treatment of larvae that live in March, April and May is yet to start," said the mayor of Ruse Municipality.

Minister Kondeva assured the attendees that the Ministry of Health will do everything possible to meet the deadline to ensure effective management of mosquitoes in the Danube municipalities in 2025.

Pencho Milkov assessed the meeting as successful. "The Ministry has committed to a specific date for the start of the public procurement - October 15. This makes it possible for the procedure, even in the event of an appeal, to be completed on time, so that in March or at the latest in early April 2025 the treatment itself can begin," the mayor said.

The meeting was also attended by Deputy Minister of Health Dobromira Kareva, Head of Cabinet Teodora Tabakova and Iliya Tasev, Director of the Public Health Protection, Health Control and Patients' Rights Directorate.
