The 14th National Folklore Competition "Danube Nightingales" ended yesterday with a gala concert in the Dohodno building.
In this year's edition, over 400 performers, vocal and instrumental groups, folk choirs, orchestras and ensembles participated in 3 age groups and the following categories:
- lovers;
- classes with advanced study of folklore;
- music schools.
"I wish all the participants in the competition success and may the flame of Bulgarian folklore never stop burning in their hearts," Deputy Mayor Encho Enchev opened the competition program.
The contest is included in the national calendar of the Ministry of Culture, and for the fifth consecutive year in the National Program for the Protection of Gifted Children. This makes it possible for the 1st, 2nd and 3rd place finishers from the third age group of the individual performers to be stimulated with a 12-month scholarship.
They were evaluated by a jury consisting of Academician Prof. Milcho Vasilev from AMTII - Plovdiv and members: Sashka Chenkova - teacher at the National School of Folklore "Filip Kutev" in the city of Kotel and at the Shumen University "Bishop Konstantin Preslavski", and the beloved folk singer Rumyana Popova, whose performances complemented the program of the festive gala concert on Sunday.
