A film will commemorate the 8-century history of the Ivanovo Rock Monastery

On July 14, at 6 p.m., the official premiere of the documentary "Year 1218: The Meeting of Transformation" will take place in the "Europe" hall of the Theatre. It is part of the program for the celebration of the 800th anniversary of the foundation of the Ivanovo Rock Monastery.

The documentary follows the remarkable meeting between the new Bulgarian ruler John II Assen and the monk St. Joakim, who came from Sveta Gora to settle in the valley of Rusenski Lom. This meeting changed the Bulgarian state, and the immediate result was the foundation of the Ivanovo Rock Monastery through a generous donation of gold made by the young John II Assen.

Thanks to the great glory of St. Joachim and with the royal support, the monastery grew rapidly, attracting highly educated monks from the entire Balkan Peninsula, becoming the central abode of the Second Bulgarian Kingdom.

The plot of the scenario was built through interviews with the historian Prof. Plamen Pavlov, the museologist Prof. Nikolay Nenov, the epigrapher Assoc. Kosta Hadzhiev and the restorer Albena Mazakova.

The authors of the film are the iconographer Alexander Stoykov and the cinematographer Nikolai Lazarov.
