23-year-old Alexander Georgiev from Ruse pulled out the cross from the Danube river on Epiphany

Ruse welcomed Epiphany with a ritual water service and throwing the cross into the waters of the Danube. In the traditional St. Jordan's  Day race took part 12 braves, 23-year-old Alexander Georgiev was the fastest and reached the Epiphany Cross first. The youngest of the participants was 20 years old and the oldest - 37. Valentin Tsvetkov, who took out the cross last year, also joined the race.

The event is organized by the Holy Metropolis of Ruse with the assistance of the Ruse Municipality and the Ruse Regional Administration.
It was preceded by a liturgical procession, which started in front of the Holy Trinity Cathedral, and the ceremony of throwing the cross began at 11:30 a. m. on the Pontoon under the Riga Hotel. The Mayor of Ruse Pencho Milkov, the Governor of Ruse Region Danail Kovachev and his deputy Georgi Georgiev, the Chairman of the Municipal Council Acad. Hristo Beloev, the head of the Military District I degree - Ruse Col. Vassil Petrov, the Director of the Regional Directorate of the Ministry of Interior Art. commissioner Plamen Parvanov, the Head of the Regional Department of Education Dr. Rositsa Georgieva, many residents and guests of Ruse. To the sound of marches performed by the Municipal Brass Band, priests from the Holy Metropolis of Ruse performed the solemn water blessing and blessed the battle flags of the honorary company of the Ruse Garrison. The 13th Youth Guard Unit of the Municipal Youth Home also participated in the celebration.

Alexander Georgiev, who is a financier and a banker, wished health to himself and to all the people of Ruse. The Mayor of Ruse Municipality Pencho Milkov presented him with a terry robe and a cash prize of 200 leva, the Regional Governor presented him with an icon of Jesus Christ, and traditionally H. E. Mr. Metropolitan Naum of Ruse - silver cross, icon and bottle of wine.
