On September 25, the next edition of the International Road Run "Free Spirit Run Giurgiu - Ruse" will take place,
In 2022, the start of the 15-kilometre course will be in the city centre of Giurgiu, Romania, and the finish will be in Ruse, Bulgaria, with the fastest participant expected to run the distance to Ruse in 45 minutes.
"By organizing the run we prove our natural connection and friendship with the Romanian people," said Deputy Mayor Encho Enchev.
"Sport is a very important ambassador and although the Danube divides us, we unite through this initiative", said the Deputy Mayor of Giurgiu, Marian Damian.
"On the Bulgarian side, the best runners are participating, as well as many amateurs. The ratio between Bulgarians and Romanians is 50/50", said one of the organizers and chairman of
Sports Athletics Club "Danube" - Evgeni Ignatov. The prize fund is 6,000 euros, with special prizes for veterans aged 40 and over.
The capacity of the race is 300 participants, with runners from Bulgaria, Romania, Israel, Turkey, South Africa, Italy and the United Kingdom signed up so far. The oldest runner is a 75-year-old Bulgarian who has participated in all editions of the race so far.
Each participant receives a commemorative medal, t-shirt, transport to/from the start-final. The best overall and age group winners also receive cash prizes.
The minimum age is 18 years. Each participant must be able to legally cross and reside on the territory of Bulgaria and Romania.
The competition is organized by the Sports Athletics Club "Dunav" and Ruse Municipality and is included in the calendar of the European Athletics Federation.
The press conference was attended by the sports director, chairman of the organizing committee of the competition and honorary citizen of Ruse Anelia Nuneva.
