The non-profit association in public benefit "Local Fisheries Initiative Group Ruse - Ivanovo - Borovo" was established today at a meeting in the building of the Municipality of Ruse. The event was opened by the Mayor of Ruse Municipality Pencho Milkov.
"The goals of the joint initiative are very ambitious. I strongly believe that together with our two nearby municipalities we will be able to turn the region into an attractive place, combining natural and cultural wealth with conditions for modern business and a full-fledged lifestyle," said Milkov. He explained that the Local Fisheries Action Group will be used in two directions - structures will be built in municipalities, and it will also work with the assistance of non-governmental organizations and the entire community related to fisheries and aquaculture.
The participants in the meeting adopted the Statute of the Association and the Board of Directors, and Pencho Milkov was elected as its chairman.
The project envisages activities aimed at supporting the process of establishing FLAGs on the territory of the municipalities of Ruse, Ivanovo and Borovo. Actions will be prepared to support the development and future implementation of a strategy that will contribute to the development of fisheries and aquaculture communities.
There is a conscious need to unite the efforts of the local community – public, private and civil organizations – in order to actively support the processes of development of the territory. A partnership agreement for the establishment of a FLAG was signed between the Municipality of Ruse, the Municipality of Ivanovo, the Municipality of Borovo and representatives of the economic and non-profit sectors of the target territory, with the leading partner being the Municipality of Ruse.
The activities are implemented under the project "Preparatory activities for the establishment of a Fisheries Local Action Group (FLAG) Ruse Municipality – Ivanovo Municipality – Borovo Municipality and for the development of a Strategy for Community-Led Local Development for the period 2021-2027" under Procedure BG14MFPR001-3.001 "Capacity Building and Preparatory Actions to Support the Development and Future Implementation of the Community-Led Local Development Strategies" within the Maritime Programme, Fisheries and aquaculture 2021-2027
