| string | description | The new Transfusion Hematology Department at the MEDIKA University Hospital in Ruse was officially presented today with a solemn ceremony and blessing of water for health. The structure will ensure the collection, processing, storage and provision of blood and blood products for the needs of patients, while at the same time promoting voluntary blood donation in the region.
The event was attended by Mayor Pencho Milkov, Regional Governor Prof. Dr. Lyubomir Vladimirov, Deputy Mayor Dimitar Nedev, Director of the Regional Health Inspectorate in Ruse Assoc. Prof. Dr. Alexander Parashkevov, MD, Director of the National Center for Transfusion Hematology Dr. Krasimira Terzieva, Directors of the Regional Centers for Transfusion Hematology in Pleven and Plovdiv Dr. Anelia Tsocheva and Dr. Yanko Yankov, representatives of the Bulgarian Red Cross, representatives of the Bulgarian Red Cross, state and local institutions, medical specialists, citizens and journalists.
The manager of the medical institution, Dr. Ivelin Yotsov, emphasized the importance of blood donation as a supreme act of humanity and announced that since the beginning of January, over 1,050 voluntary blood donors have passed through the department. The head of the department, Dr. Zhanina Yordanova, MD, presented the activities and mission of the new structure. “Blood is the only thing that a person can donate to another person in the most gratuitous way, giving him a chance for life and a future. Our responsibility is for every patient to receive the necessary blood products at the right time,” she said.
The mayor of Ruse, Pencho Milkov, welcomed the management and team of the hospital for expanding the possibilities for healthcare in the city. “I am honored that a second transfusion hematology department has opened in Ruse. This is an important sign for the development of the MEDIKA University Hospital and for the establishment of the city as a significant medical center. I wish you to promote voluntary blood donation and for more and more people to realize how valuable this act is,” said Milkov. He congratulated the co-managers of Medica Hospitals - Alise Murtezova and Dr. Panayot Panayotov, for the initiative and noted that the opening of the Transfusion Hematology Department is proof of vision, responsibility and true care for patients.
Father Iskren performed the blessing of water for the health and well-being of medical specialists, donors and patients. The mayor expressed hope that the patron saint of Ruse - Saint George, will watch over all who dedicate their work to saving human lives.
As a sign of support for the cause of encouraging voluntary blood donation, Pencho Milkov personally donated blood. “Spending ten minutes of your day can mean saving a human life. Every young person or adult who has the opportunity can come and do good,” the mayor addressed the attendees.
The department accepts blood donors every working day from 8:00 to 16:00. Healthy people between the ages of 18 and 65, who are not taking certain medications and do not have infectious diseases, can donate blood. At least 60 days must have passed between two blood donations.
