Through the implementation of photovoltaic systems (PV), not only significant energy savings will be achieved, but also the living conditions of the residents in these villages will be improved.
The project has a total value of BGN 1,288,056. with VAT and is fully financed by the National Recovery and Resilience Plan. It is innovative in nature for Bulgaria, as it is the first of its kind that will cover the overall modernization of street lighting in small settlements.
Within the framework of the project, 14 PV plants will be built, which will be located on the roofs of municipal buildings and properties. These plants will produce electricity for their own needs of street lighting in 10 villages - Basarbovo, Marten (3 PV plants), Nikolovo (2 solar power plants), Sandrovo, Prosena, Semerdzhievo, Novo Selo, Chervena Voda (2 solar power plants), Tetovo and Hoantsa. The new PV plants will lead to a minimum 90% reduction in electricity costs for street lighting in these settlements.
The project will contribute to increasing traffic safety, as better lighting will improve visibility at night and reduce the risk of road accidents. In addition, the modernization will create a more comfortable and pleasant environment for residents, and the production of electricity from solar energy will also contribute to reducing greenhouse gas emissions.
The realized energy and cost savings will increase the opportunities for investment in renewable sources and the development of energy monitoring and management systems for outdoor artificial lighting systems. The monitoring system and the management of the systems, in turn, will provide the mayoralties with the opportunity for flexible management of street lighting.
