Friday, 06 January 2023

A celebration on the occasion of the 175th anniversary of the birth of the great Bulgarian poet and revolutionary Hristo Botev was organized today at the secondary school of the same name in Ruse.
Wreaths and flowers were laid in front of the hero's memorial plaque by the Mayor Pencho Milkov, the Regional Governor Anatoly Stanev, the Director of the RDE Rositsa Georgieva, the two Deputy Mayors Encho Enchev and Dimitar Nedev and the President of the Euroregion Danubius Association Lili Gancheva.
A wreath in front of Botev's bust in the school building was laid by the school's alumni, and then the event moved to the auditorium.
"Botev is energy, more than a historical figure. He carries the word dream and energy in himself, because by creating the dream of a free fatherland, he gives us an example of how no difficulty, not even mortal danger, can break the strong spirit. This is the meaning of his work, because his dream begins to live in many other people after he is gone," the mayor addressed the audience.

"Keep in your hearts and souls the flame of Botev's covenants and remember that no one can take away our freedom," said the regional governor, who recalled that Botev's work is no less significant for us Bulgarians than his work as a rebel and revolutionary.
The Student Council of Hristo Botev School had prepared a rich program with Botev's poems, his notes, Renaissance songs and musical performances with bagpipes. Members of the XIII Student Guard Unit, who study at the school, also took part in the celebration.
