Currently in Bulgaria only Sofia and Varna have a mammograph and ultrasound at such technological level
The new technique for improving the diagnosis of patients and early detection of cancer was presented today at the Comprehensive Cancer Centre in Ruse. The medical equipment was presented by the manager of the Comprehensive Cancer Centre Dr. Kamen Kozhuharov and the head of the department "Diagnostic Imaging" Dr. Desislava Genova - Nikolaeva, and special guests were the deputy mayor Dimitar Nedev, the regional governor Danail Kovachev and the director of the Regional Health Inspectorate - Ruse Dr. Alexander Parashkevov.
"It is important to focus citizens' attention on cancer prevention and early detection. The Complex Oncology Centre employs outstanding professionals, who I believe will achieve very good results with the new equipment with the sick patients," said the Deputy Mayor. He wished the hospital success in the upcoming projects.
The equipment includes nuclear magnetic resonance, which is a new activity for the medical facility. This is a non-radiative technique that can also be used to examine the mammary glands, and this type of examination is not paid for by the NHIF.
The comprehensive cancer center also boasts a high-end mammogram and ultrasound. The equipment is technologically new and the expectations are that it will be used not only by residents of Ruse, but also by residents of other regions. At the moment, only Sofia and Varna in Bulgaria have such equipment. The hospital says that the mammogram can take regular and 3D pictures, as well as contrast enhancement of the mammographic image. This allows easy diagnosis.
The new medical equipment was purchased by the medical facility under a joint project with the "Regional Fund for Urban Development" JSC and is financed with a long-term loan, as there is also a co-payment. Examinations will be carried out both with a referral from the NHIF and with a fee.
