In Bucharest, the start of the new 2024/2025 school year was given at the Bulgarian Sunday School "Yordan Yovkov" in Bucharest. At the solemn ceremony a guest was also the Deputy Mayor for Education and Culture of the Municipality of Ruse Encho Enchev.
"You are the living proof that the Bulgarian spirit can spread anywhere in the world and keep its light wherever we are. The native language and culture that you learn will be your guide even in the most difficult moments," the Deputy Mayor addressed the students. He wished the director of the educational institution Dr. Nadezhda Kula a successful school year and presented her with a congratulatory address on behalf of the mayor Pencho Milkov. As a special gift for the school, Encho Enchev donated books telling about the life and work of Hristo Botev.
During the ceremony, His Grace Makariy - Vicar Bishop of the Metropolitan of Ruse Naum, and Archpriest Kiril Sinev - representative of the Bulgarian Orthodox Church in Romania, served a prayer for a successful school year.
The event was hosted by the Ambassador of Bulgaria to Romania H.E. Radko Vlaikov, the Regional Governor Dragomir Draganov and the Head of the Regional Education Department - Ruse Dr. Rositsa Georgieva were also present.
The Bulgarian School "Yordan Yovkov" at the Embassy of the Republic of Bulgaria in Bucharest was opened in 1987. Bulgarian students whose parents temporarily or permanently reside in Romania are trained. At the end of each school year, certificates of completion of Bulgarian language training are issued for the respective grade, which are recognized by the Ministry of Education and Science of the Republic of Bulgaria.
In the current 2024/2025 year, 65 students will step on the threshold of the educational institution in Bucharest, and for the first year they will also study Bulgarian history and geography.
