Tuesday, 20 February 2024

"Thousands of lives have been sacrificed for our freedom. It bears a lot of responsibility and is something we can voluntarily lose if we succumb to everyday difficulties or the topics that divide us. Freedom will be guaranteed only if we are together as Bulgarians and as citizens of Ruse. "

This message was conveyed by Mayor Pencho Milkov at an official ceremony in the Pantheon of National Revival Heroes, where 146 years since the liberation of the city from Ottoman yoke were celebrated.

The celebration of the important date for Ruse began with a thanksgiving prayer in memory of those who died for the Liberation. It was served in the Holy Trinity Cathedral by Metropolitan Naum of Ruse, Bishop Makarios of Glavinitsa and priests of the Holy Bishopric of Ruse.

On the square in front of the temple, the National Society "Tradition" organized a reconstruction of the entry of the Russian troops in Ruse and the welcoming of Gen. Totleben. Hundreds of citizens of Ruse saw Salim Pasha symbolically handing over the key to the fortress, and then, together with the general and the rank of the Ataman regiment, with flying flags enter through the Razgrad gate into the city.

In the Pantheon of the National Revival Heroes was held a solemn ceremony with the participation of the Municipal Wind Orchestra conducted by Dimcho Rubchev, the 13th Youth Guard Detachment at the Municipal Youth House, Darina Daskalova - a longtime winner in the Recital Competition "For Bulgaria to Exist", organized by the Municipal Youth House, and the Children's and Girls' Choir "Danube Waves" at the Municipal Children's Center for Culture and Art conducted by Vesela Todorova.
