At a commemorative ceremony today the citizens of Ruse celebrated 152 years since the death of one of the Bulgarian national heroes - Angel Kanchev.
"Today we need to contribute to the Motherland through part of our strength, our time, our funds - for this Bulgaria, for which young people like Angel Kanchev sacrificed their lives. It is important to truly love our country every day," Mayor Pencho Milkov said in his speech.
On the banks of the Danube – on the pier next to Pontoon No5, the National Society "Tradition" presented a historical reconstruction of the events of the tragic day in memory of the sacrifice of the Bulgarian revolutionary. Only 21 years old, Angel Kanchev ended his life at the port, captured by the Ottoman authorities in an attempt to go through committee cases in Romania.
The memorial procession headed to the monument of the hero on "Slavyanska" str. , where wreaths and flowers were laid.
The commemorative event was attended by the Municipal Brass Orchestra, Martin Siromahov from the Vocal Studio "Sunny Notes" headed by Phd. Natalia Konstantinova and the Youth Guards Detachment at the Municipal Youth House.
The event was attended by the Deputy Mayors Encho Enchev and Dimitar Nedev, the Chairman of the Municipal Council Acad. Hristo Beloev, the Deputy Governor Georgi Georgiev, the Rector of the University of Ruse "Angel Kanchev" prof. Dr. Plamen Kangalov, MP Ivan Ivanov, municipal councilors and citizens. Priests from the Holy Bishopric of Ruse performed a memorial prayer in memory of the Bulgarian revolutionary.
Host of the celebration was the actor from the Drama Theater "Sava Ognyanov" Ventsislav Petkov.
Over 300 runners started in the seventh Danube marathon "Prista RUN 2024"
