The first department of cardiac surgery in the region was presented at the University Hospital "Medica"

Today in the building of the University Hospital "Medica" was officially presented the department of cardiac surgery - the only one of its kind in the region. The opening was also attended by the Deputy Mayor of Ruse Municipality Dimitar Nedev.

"I am convinced that with your efforts you will continue to build the positive image of private healthcare in our country and I congratulate you for choosing the difficult path for this to happen outside the four largest cities in the country," said the Deputy Mayor in his address to the manager of Medical Institutions "Medica" prof. Dr. Kiril Panayotov, MD, PhD, and the medical specialists under whose leadership the department operates.
Cardiac surgery has been operating since the end of last year, housing an operating unit, a resuscitation and intensive care unit, as well as a sector for pre- and postoperative treatment of the latest generation. The department offers its patients a full range of procedures performed in cardiac surgery, except only for the treatment of congenital malformations in children and heart transplants. So far, several complex combined surgical operations have been performed, as well as minimally invasive operations, several implantations of seamless valves, and gradually the activities are expanding. The highly qualified team of specialists plans to operate on a beating heart, and in the near future hopes to fully develop endoscopic heart surgery, as well as robotic surgery.

Head of the cardiac surgery unit at the University Hospital "Medica" is Dr. Georgi Ignatov, who has completed his training abroad and until recently worked for a leading medical institution in the country. The resuscitation, in which 8 beds are available to patients, is managed by Dr. Julien Dimitrov. In their words, the new department is one of the most modern in the country and Eastern Europe, and they are ready to treat foreigners.

The event was also attended by the Deputy Regional Governor Georgi Georgiev, the Dean of the Faculty of "Public Health and Health Care" at the University of Ruse "Angel Kanchev" and the Deputy Director of the Regional Health Inspectorate – Ruse Dr. Iskra Geneva.
