A digitization center, through which the conditions for access to the cultural heritage of Ruse and the region will be preserved and improved, will be created by the Municipality of Ruse together with the main cultural institutions and organizations. This became clear at today's introductory press conference, which was held in the St. Georgi" in the building of the local administration.
The project "Preservation and promotion of cultural heritage through digital storage and presentation" is worth BGN 525,355.96, and the beneficiary is the Municipality of Ruse in partnership with the Regional Library "Lyuben Karavelov", the Drama Theater "Sava Ognyanov", the Municipal Cultural Institute, "Art Gallery" - Ruse, State Opera House - Ruse, National School of Arts "Prof. Veselin Stoyanov", Regional History Museum, Renaissance Community Center "Dawn 1866", State Puppet Theater - Ruse and the National Museum of Liechtenstein. Project manager is Ivaylo Kadishev - Director of the Directorate "International Policies, Economic Activities and Analyses" in the Municipality of Ruse, who presented a brief presentation of the main goals, tasks and activities of the project.
Within the framework of the two-year project, financed under the "Cultural Entrepreneurship, Heritage and Cooperation" program of the Financial Mechanism of the European Economic Area, a minimum of 30,000 artifacts - photos, books, documents, etc. - will be digitized. The center, where the activities of the project will be carried out, will be located in one of the buildings of the Municipality of Ruse, and ongoing renovation of the premises is to be carried out. One of the first steps is the purchase of equipment, equipment and specialized software for scanning documents of various formats and weights.
A leading moment in the implementation of the project, which will be promoted through a bilingual online platform, is the creation of an independent capacity for the digitization of cultural heritage, since only in this way will the necessary efficiency and sustainability of the activities and results be ensured. It is planned that 8 employees will undergo training "Technologies for digitization of cultural and historical heritage" to acquire additional professional competences, three of them will work full-time on the project and will be fully involved in the technical implementation of digitization of the units. At a later stage of implementation, 200 students from Ruse and the region will receive basic knowledge of the digitization process, data processing and skills in using modern technologies.
By providing access to the culture and history of the region, the project will contribute to the Bulgarian cultural heritage achieving greater participation in the pan-European context of cultural exchange. Its successful implementation will unite the efforts of cultural institutions by applying a regional approach to building better capacity in the digitization process and will contribute to the sustainable service of their needs. "The project will also include a digital presentation of the cultural history of the minority groups in Ruse and some of the small settlements in the municipality," emphasized Ivaylo Kadishev.
A number of interactive project activities are also planned, some of which include the creation of partnerships with at least 5 networks and creative clusters, the realization of an exchange of at least two exhibitions with the Liechtenstein Museum, as well as the creation of 5 concepts for joint projects with specialized platforms - cultural heritage data providers.
